Technology

What do we do? Why do we do it?

Design and Technology is an enjoyable, engaging, challenging and practical subject that encourages students to learn to think and work creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Nottingham Academy, we are a design team that actively encourages students to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Students will broadly develop understanding of material properties, design thinking and systems technology to further equip them for the 21st century work environment. We aim to develop links to other STEM disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering and computing. The students are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present technologies, learn the history of design and study iconic designer’s work. Through Design Technology study students are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers and develop creativity and practical skills to potentially further a career in the creative, construction and civil sectors. Design technology is a well-subscribed and popular subject to study at GCSE at Nottingham Academy which enables students to reflect and study creatively and practically the designed world around them.
