Farewell from Principal, Mr Rae
A leaving letter from Academy Principal, Mr Ged Rae,
I write to you as I leave Nottingham Academy to take up my new post after Easter. It is certainly not how I envisaged that my final weeks at the Academy would play out. I regret that I have not had the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to you, but I hope you will know that I am thinking about you all during these unprecedented times.
Since the Academy closed, I have spent time in quiet and almost empty Academy buildings. I have been reminded that a school is more than its bricks and mortar, it is the community that learns, works and plays together in it. I have sorely missed the energy, enthusiasm and the noise of learning which typically fills our corridors, classrooms and communal spaces.
It has been a privilege to have served you and this community as both Assistant Principal (2010-12) and Principal since 2015. I am proud of what we have achieved, the successes we have shared and the challenges we have overcome. I leave with so many experiences and great memories that I could write a book!
I would like to thank parents and carers for your support and partnership over the years.
As your Principal, I have attempted to develop strong collaborations with partners to provide opportunities for you, encouraged you to contribute to our community and have supported you to strive for excellence in all that you do. By embedding our Academy Respect Values, I believe I leave behind an Academy which is inclusive, ambitious, and compassionate – a great place to learn.
I have been fortunate to have worked with so many exceptionally talented teachers and leaders during my time at Nottingham Academy. I implore you to work with our staff, whilst Home Leaning and on your return to the Academy, to ensure you achieve your best.
As you are aware Mr King will be Acting Principal until a new Principal takes up post. He will contact you after the holiday to update you on this and his plans for the summer term.
Although it might be difficult in this unique time, I remind you that you must continue to look to the future with optimism, aspire to achieve excellence and be determined to make a positive contribution to the world - #bethechange.
Stay safe, stay healthy and be kind.
