Nottingham Secondary Academy

Transition - frequently asked questions

If you have any other queries regarding your child joining the Academy in September please refer to the Academy website www.nottinghamacademy.org or email admin@nottinghamacademy.org. There may be a slight delay in response due to leave during the holiday period but we will endeavour to respond as soon as possible.

Do pupils have a form tutor or a specific member of staff they can easily contact if they have any problems or queries?

Every student is in a tutor group and will have a designated tutor, who they will see at registration each lunchtime for 35 minutes. In addition to this, each year group has a Deputy Head of Year, this is a non teaching member of staff who supports with pastoral needs.

How do you support children with additional needs, SEND (special education needs and disabilities) and SEMH (social emotional and mental health)?

At the Academy, we work very hard to support all our pupils including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the individual needs of our pupils on entry. For some pupils, we offer a bespoke programme to help them have a smooth transition.

Once at the Academy, we provide a range of strategies including:

  • individual support through the classroom or through withdrawal
  • a curriculum catering for each child's needs
  • one to one catch up reading programmes

The Academy website has lots of information on the SEND support at Nottingham Academy, in addition to this, the Academy has recently increased our SEND team and have employed a SEMH Counsellor to support pupils in this area

Can they wear PE Kit on PE days

Yes students should arrive in PE kit on PE days please refer to www.nottinghamacademy.org/uniform for further details on the PE Kit.

We use a system called parent pay, you will be provided with a letter which will provide instructions to use the system and a code to logon with.

Do students have lockers?

We do not have lockers on site for students, students carry their belongings with them. Due to PE kit being worn all day, there is less for students to carry.

When will students receive their timetables

This will be received on the induction day.

All uniform is purchased from Price and Buckland. Unfortunately, if you have an account with them for Primary uniform you will need to sign up with a different email address to purchase the Secondary uniform.
