Uniform

Uniform

The Academy has strict guidelines on dress and all pupils are expected to wear the full Academy uniform. The wearing of our distinctive uniform gives pupils a sense of 'belonging', helps foster a pride in the Academy and stops pupils coming to the Academy in unsuitable clothes.

We want all our pupils to present themselves smartly and to take pride in wearing our uniform properly. We believe this helps to create the climate for learning which helps our pupils to be successful. We also believe that the self-discipline this requires is important.

There are distinct uniforms for all phases of the Academy, from Nursery through to year 11.  Pupils are expected to wear the Academy uniform when travelling to and from the Academy, at all Academy functions and on visits by parties or sports teams. Parents are strongly advised to supervise the purchase of all clothing which is to be worn in the Academy and when there is doubt, to check in advance with the Academy to find out whether or not a particular item will be acceptable.

Jewellery is not allowed, except for one small, plain, metal ear stud in the bottom of the lobe of each ear. Ear-rings, rings, nose studs or other facial jewellery, nail varnish and make up are not allowed.  For pupils in Years 10 and 11, one small, plain ring may be worn.

Excessive hair styles are strongly discouraged and all pupils with long hair must have it tied back.  ‘Cuts’ of any shape or design are not allowed, nor are non-natural or multiple hair colours.  Plain black hats and scarves may be worn at the discretion of the Head of School in very cold weather.

Shoes should be black and sensible for school use, flat soled or with very low heels, no more than half an inch at the front of the heel. They should have no logos or embellishments and should be able to take boot polish. High heeled shoes are quite unsuitable and are dangerous on our Academy sites. Boots or trainers are not to be worn.

Electrical items, such as mobile phones and music devices, are also not allowed in the Academy and will be confiscated if found. THE ACADEMY TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOST OR STOLEN JEWELLERY OR ELECTRICAL ITEMS AS THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE ACADEMY.

All pupils are expected to have a suitable school bag with them each day, capable of carrying their planner, books and equipment. Denim coats, hoodies, body-warmers and caps are not allowed.
