Key Stage 3
In years 7 and 8, pupils study French for two lessons a week. Higher ability pupils also study Spanish for an additional two lessons a week.
In Year 9, pupils study French for two lessons a week and higher ability pupils also study Spanish for an additional two lessons a week.
We aim to teach French and Spanish in an interactive and engaging way. We also feel that all pupils should have the opportunity to access the curriculum. To facilitate this, teachers use a variety of games, interactive ICT resources, a range of course books (In French we use Expo and in Spanish we use Mira) and active learning techniques.
We study a range of topics that teach them the vocabulary required to describe their personal and everyday life. Lessons are based on the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. All pupils are encouraged to participate as this builds confidence and reinforces vocabulary. The course is assessed through classwork tasks, end of module tests and an end of year examination.
