Basketball News 18/12/17

Basketball may be an indoor sport, but snow brought a week of cancellations due to travel!

Last week saw a number of cancelled fixtures due to the weather, so the only fixture that took place was the Women's U'19 Cup Game against Charnwood on Wednesday.

However it was still a busy week for Basketball as we  successfully host over 60 Pupils from local primary schools on Tuesday as part of the Nottingham Academy Transition days. 10 of our pupils also went to officiate at the City Primary Schools Finals at Nottingham Trent University on Thursday.  Both groups of students represented the Academy exceptionally well.

The girls game saw a tight first quarter as both teams competed hard throughout.  Charnwood edged away towards the end of the quarter.  In the 2nd period Charnwood stepped up their pressure and forced some turnovers.  Despite some excellent basketball from the Academy the ball would not drop, and several great plays went unrewarded leaving the girls behind at the half.

The third period followed the same pattern until an injury to Ines Guerreiro halted the game.  Ines (who is okay) would have to go to hospital to be checked out.  This disrupted the rhythm of the game for both teams but it was Charnwood that managed to capitalise and go on to win 76 - 28.

Nottingham Academy would like to wish all of our student athletes a wonderful festive break. They have all worked incredibly hard this season and we look forward to a succesful 2018.
