Governance for an individual Academy

Each Academy has its own Governing Council. The role of each Academy Governing Council is in the remit of the Trust Board.

The Trust Board has decided that the role will comprise four key roles:

1.     To advise and act as a critical friend to the Executive Principal or Principal of the Academy and to advise the Board of Directors of the Greenwood Academies Trust about local issues they need to consider that affect the Academy.  
2. To represent the interests of the Academy community in the running of the Academy and to represent the Academy in its community.
3. To provide support to the Executive Principal or Principal of the Academy and to advise the Board of Directors of the Greenwood Academies Trust about local issues they need to consider that affect the Academy.
4. Consider budget monitoring information and make recommendations to the Principal in relation to any potential overspending.

The membership of each Governing Council is in the remit of the Trust Board.  As a minimum each Council will have:

For the Nottingham, Nottingham Girls' and Skegness Academies

a)  a parent of a pupil at the Academy
b)  a member of staff at the Academy
c)  a representative of the Local Authority

For all other Academies

a)   two parents of pupils at the Academy

The Trust Board has decided that each Academy Council will comprise the minimum requirements as set out above and:

•  at least six sponsor appointed members
•  the CEO or a member appointed by him
•  the Executive Principal of the Academy
